Beets Dosai, Awards and Tag

I have blogged dosais with beets - when i actually used the beets to grind the batter for the Idlis - this time I did it differently - the color was a lot more intense and it tasted even better!! This is a spinoff dish from the beetroot cutlets that I blogged last - I saved the juice water from steaming the beets and added it to my dosai batter and the result are the pink deliciouses! This picture was for my black and white Wednesday trial attempts :) For regular dosa recipe, look here.

Beets Dosai

This was a trial run for the B&W wednesday event :)

beets Dosai

This was the actual picture!

I also had some cutlets leftover from the previous day and decided to make this an all beet meal -trust me when I say it was gone in seconds!

I have also been tagged by Sobha Shyam of Good Food to answer 7 questions about my blog - I will post this as my next post since this requires some homework and I am a procrastinator when it comes to homework :P

Cluster Awards - Passing on the Kindness Shown

Have you had your kindness show, pass it on, for it is not thine alone, pass it on...
I would ideally like to share these awards with ALL my blogger friends, but I have been asked to share with 15 – not working I could not leave out a few of these bloggers so I have stretched the 15 quite far to make fifteeeeen whom I’ve gotten to know better recently. I am counting on you stopping by to see this post - Please pardon me if I am late in contacting you personally - but they are here for whenever you get to it
I like each of their blogs for different reasons and I invite you, if you haven’t already had a chance to be there, to visit their wonderful blogs.
stylish-blogger

These are awards I have recently recd. from Mina Joshi of Authentic Veggie Recipes, and Kaveri Venkatesh  Palakkad Cooking - Thank you both you rock! I am also to share 7 things about myself -hmm lemme think!

7+ things about me (as you can tell, i don’t let a number restrict me ;)

  1. I am constantly aware that life is not certainty but death is a done deal
  2. Because of this I like to constantly express my love for my family, friends and life in general. Also importantly, I want to eat healthy and exercise so that I can live to be a grand old lady still doing my yoga!
  3. I have deep faith in God and am thankful for everything that he has given me, especially my family, husband and children – so try to do random acts of kindness
  4. I believe in complete honesty but only to the extent that it does not hurt someone’s feelings – I think a positive comment to anyone goes a LONG way
  5. I teach a yoga class every Thursday for my neighborhood ladies. I have taught dance for over 10 years, but I am trying to ease up on this! I am very proud and honored by the last two...read on!
  6. I was a political correspondent in India and have met and been hugged by Mother Teresa – I also got to do some work for her in New Delhi where I lived at that time (seems like another life )
  7. I have also met Sir Edmund Hilary (our first man on the Everest) and interviewed him. In fact, I’ve gone to Mt. Cook in New Zealand where Sir Hilary practiced climbing before he took on Mt. Everest
I request the ladies I’ve recently gotten to know through their lovely blogs to please share this award and I want to thank Mina Joshi for giving me a chance to make myself known a little better to my blogger friends. Love you all for making this a wonderful experience.

Tag and Tagging

Thank you Nithu for tagging me! I finally found some time to actually sit and answer some of the questions.

Who inspired you to cook?

As a mother of discerning children, wife of a foodie husband, daughter of the most incredible cook for a mother and a sound critic for a father, inspiration comes naturally J.

If someone were to ask you to bring dessert to a party, what would you bring? Store bought, or homemade, and if you were to make homemade, what would you make?

Depending on how intimately I know the person who’s throwing the party, and depending on the crowd expected at the party, I plan and make my desserts accordingly.

Do you time your breakfast, lunch & dinner or eat when you are hungry?

I usually start my day off with a homemade fruit juice and a cup of coffee and something a little light to energize myself. Lunch is a grab bag in that I make myself something really simple if and when I’m hungry. Dinner is the one meal that we definitely have.

Name three things you have to use in most recipes.

I use olive oil, herbs and spices.

How important is eating meals together as a family to you?

All of us live very hectic lives, parents and children alike, and the one sit down meal that we have together is dinner, so that becomes the most important time spent together when we catch up with each others’ day. So the answer is: VERY important.

Do you have a New Year's resolution-and will you be sticking to it?

I have made resolutions in the past, been able to stick with it for a while, but many people have fallen off the wagon. So I think about a few things that I want to do in the new-year, but follow it loosely as not to feel pressured. In fact, this loose arrangement actually helps me keep my resolve better than a firm one.

How will you celebrate your next birthday?

Cruising in a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea. Well, I don’t know, but just wishful thinking J.

What is your take on organic food, is it a big deal for you?

Honestly, growing up in India, I ate only organic foods, but now, it’s become a very expensive proposition. However, I am a huge fan of Dr. Oz and I tend to use certain organic products that he recommends are safer and better for health, and not obsess about being too rigid about using organic products.

Here are some ladies I’d like to tag:

Savitha Ramesh (Savitha’s Kitchen)
Saraswati (Sara’s Corner)
Torview Toronto
Dr. Sameena (My Culinary Creations)
Priya (Priya’s Nice n’ Easy Recipes)
Harini (Tamalapaku)
Rupali (Recipe Grab Bag)
Kurinji (Kurinji Kadambam)

Please keep the tag going, so we get to know our fellow bloggers better J.

PS: Please send in you recipes for my first event. The New Year’s around the corner! Merry Christmas Eve to all!
